It just keeps getting worse at the U.N.

Incompetence and corruption at the U.N. appears to be swirling around and around in ever-widening circles. The oil-for-food scandal continues to grow, which the U.N. insists is under investigation, led by Paul Volker, who now, it has been revealed, has substantial business ties with several central figures in the investigation. Then there are the sexcapade scandals that seem to follow U.N. peacekeepers wherever they go. The peacekeepers didn't go to Rwanda or the Sudan, while government-backed savages hacked to death nearly a million helpless people.

And now, a top researcher for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has resigned, charging that the IPCC leadership is hyping a pre-conceived global warming agenda that is contrary to established scientific fact.

In an open letter to the climate change science community, Chris Landsea, of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said:

"I personally cannot in good faith continue to contribute to a process that I view as both being motivated by pre-conceived agendas and being scientifically unsound."

Landsea is one of the world's top hurricane experts, who was asked by a lead author of the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report, to develop a segment on the impact of global warming on the future intensity of hurricanes. All previous IPCC Assessment Reports said that there is no scientific evidence that there is a relationship between global warming and an increase in hurricane frequency or intensity. Landsea's current studies provide no scientific evidence to change this conclusion.

Nevertheless, Lead Author, Dr. Kevin Trenberth, participated in a press conference billed as "Experts to warn global warming likely to continue spurring more outbreaks of intense hurricane activity." Landsea had told the Lead Author that the science did not support such claims.

What's worse, when Landsea complained about the misrepresentation to the IPPC leadership, he was ignored; his complaints were dismissed without comment. This scientist refused to play along with the global warming scam.

With stories such as these blazing across newspapers and television newscasts around the world, the U.N. hierarchy is unmoved. The gigantic bureaucracy grinds forward, as if all were well with the world.

Global warming fanatics continue their hyperbole, ignoring the growing evidence that belies their claims. Senator Olympia Snowe recently participated in a task force sponsored by a group of think tanks which produced a report that claims "An ecological time-bomb is ticking away." And that "World leaders need to recognize that climate change is the single most important long-term issue that the planet faces."

The U.N. climate change bureaucracy is planning a series of parties around the world, to celebrate the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol on February 16.

The U.N. biodiversity bureaucracy is conducting another world meeting in Bangkok, Thailand this week (February 7), to further advance the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The following week, (February 14) the U.N. timber bureaucracy is conducting a world meeting in Geneva, Switzerland to negotiate another International Tropical Timber Agreement, successor to the 1994 agreement.

The next week (February 25) the U.N. environmental bureaucracy will conduct the 23rd session of the Global Ministerial Environment Forum in Nairobi, Kenya.

And so it goes, week in, and week out, somewhere in the world, the U.N. bureaucracy continues to develop and advance its policies - paid for, in significant measure, by U.S. taxpayers. This incredible bureaucratic machine is accountable to no one. It has demonstrated its willingness to misrepresent science, ignore charges of sexual abuse and harassment, turn a blind eye to obvious conflicts of interest, and to participate in inexcusable corruption.

Far too many politicians are content to allow this foolishness to continue - and to continue funding it. It will stop only when a sufficient number of American citizens become aware of the U.N.'s ineptitude, and insist that their elected officials put an end to this horrible waste.

Congressman Ron Paul will once again introduce HR1146 - a bill to withdraw from the U.N. Every person who is concerned about the U.N., should urge his representatives to co-sponsor and support this bill. The United States is the only power on earth strong enough to bring this run-away bureaucracy to a halt; the individual voter is the only power on earth strong enough to get politicians to do the right thing.
