A third party time bomb

By Michael Moriarty
web posted February 15, 2010

In response to my editorial, "The Beck is beckoning … for what really?", I received a surly e-mail, warning me that folks will start to detest anything I say … if, of course, I continue to criticize Glenn Beck.

Hmmm … I have no doubt this gentleman has his uh … noble intentions … but the frightening possibility arising out of Glenn Beck's distrust of both political parties is his increasingly populist's ability to start his own third party.

An instinctive genius, which Mr. Beck undoubtedly is, carries with it his own declaration: "Speak without fear!"

His other advice, "Hold to the truth!", creates the problem.

The possible truth is that with Glenn Beck's enormous popularity he, as a Third Party Time Bomb, could split the conservative, Tea Party vote right down the middle and throw the 2012 election back to Barack Obama.

With every bridge that Mr. Beck has burned, he has attracted an enormous following of similarly minded bridge-burners!

In my day, I burned so many bridges in New York, you might think its tunnels are the only route of access.

As Dick Schaap, the sportscaster, questioned, "Michael, is there anyone in Manhattan that you have not offended?"

Roger Ailes, producer of Fox Network, and his experience with me as a CNBC producer of my sputtering, alcoholic try at a talk show entitled Life Without Fear?

That disaster just warmed Mr. Ailes up for the Bridge-Burning Beck.

The Beck Brinksmanship is what tells me that he, as a possible third party candidate, is actually willing to risk putting Obama back into office for another four years.

Glenn Beck has already declared in the mainstream media that he much prefers Obama Hard Progressive to McCain Progressive Lite because he clearly is having a much easier and more entertaining time punching holes in the "Obamateurisms".

To the winner go the spoils!

If Obama wins in 2012, he may very well owe his triumph to Glenn Beck's Third Party.

Why am I so sure Mr. Beck will start his version of a 9/12 Political Shot at the White House?

His undeniable disdain for all other possible contenders such as Senator Scott Brown whom he came just short of calling a "dirt-bag" on his radio show.

Thank God Mr. Beck's wife is around to pull him back from the brink.

As for Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, after interviewing the former Governor, remarked to Bill O'Reilly that Ms. Palin seemed so "distrustful".

Here's the Third Party Prophet of The American Armageddon declaring that Sarah Palin might be too distrustful.

Beneath the interview was The Beck throwing out his silent, not so invisibly tacit invitation to Sarah Palin that she might join with him in a Third Party Movement.

If I had Glenn Beck's popularity, I would express my hope that Sarah Palin is to be the next Republican President of the United States and I would quietly yet increasingly express my faith in her over the next three years.

Not even Glenn Beck as President could send the profound message to the Progressive Movement that Sarah Palin already has. They're obviously more terrified of her than they are of him.

The Progressives can make no further progress whatsoever if the Roe v Wade decision to legalize abortion is challenged state by state and increasingly overturned.

Palin, with the cunning of Lincoln toward the slave-holding South, will enter the White House with a non-combative tone toward the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton. However, as each increasingly Red State will overturn Roe v Wade, the entire Progressive Movement Worldwide will collapse in, God willing, a non-violent, Second American Emancipation, yea, a Virtual Resurrection for gestating American infants.

Were Glenn Beck to become President of the United States as a Third Party Candidate?

I'd stay in Canada in the same way I've out-waited Clinton, Bush and Obama in Canada. Here, at least, I can continue my very reclusive but profoundly blissful Life Without Fear. ESR
