WHO'S AFRAID OF ANN COULTER?: It's tough to find a liberal who will go toe to toe with conservative uber-pundit Ann Coulter. At least that's what humor columnist Gene Weingarten found. In his latest column, he offered to moderate a discussion between Coulter and Al Franken. Franken begged off, and both Michael Kinsley and Molly Ivins did the same.

Tim Graham over at The Corner found this pretty funny, since Franken has been crowing about what a tough-guy he is since challenging National Review editor Rich Lowry to a fistfight; Lowry of course demurred. But I'm not entirely sure what in Weingarten's column really happend and what was just a joke.

You decide.

Franken called out Lowery? I never heard that...I wonder if he's accept a challenge from me? :-)

A few years back, Rich Lowry gave a speech that was broadcast on C-SPAN decrying the "feminization" of our culture and advocating the return of masculine values. Franken decided to make a point by challenging Lowry to a fistfight. Lowry turned down the challenge, although if I recall correctly NRO readers were overwhelmingly in favor of a brawl.

Ann Coulter lives in a fantasy world and no liberal will take her on because it's unseemly to challenge the mentally impaired to a war of wits.

By the way, are you an American? If not, why are you being such a whore for Bush?

I am conservative in most general areas (but socially rather liberal). However, I find Ms Coulter's ranting, hyperbolic style annoying, and in many repects just as shrill and strident as anything coming from the mouths of the NOW-sows.

I presume you meant that for me. You call it whoring, I call it a recognition of common interests and goals. You accuse Coulter of living in a fantasy world but nothing I've seen from the left since the 1990s bares any resemblance to the real world and the proof is fairly evident.

No, it's whoring. You've gone way beyond the recognition of common interests and goals. That's why I asked if you were an American. You sound just like one.

>Coulter of living in a fantasy world

She does. She ignores all manner of facts in order to make ad hominem attacks against anyone or anything she disagrees with.

Just as an example, this is her argument against the UN taking over in Iraq.

She cites that Germany was a group effort while Japan was done by only the US. Because it took longer and more money to rebuild Germany, it proves that a group effort is the wrong way to go, therefore the UN is useless when it comes to nation building.

The problem with here ridiculous theory, is that she completely ignores that Europe was smashed to pieces at the end of WWII. So of course it didn't go as smoothly as Japan.

See, she lives in a fantasy world.

I take that as a compliment.

Dude, you'd better open up anything written by Michael Moore or Al Franken before you start accusing anyone on the right of being childish. I make no defence of Ann Coulter -- I'm far too reserved to be a cheerleader for her -- but I can point out hysterical nonsense far easier on your side than you could on mine.
