Iran is right Adolf Hitler judged the western democracies correctly in 1937 when he marched Nazi stormtroopers into the Rhineland and the French didn't fire a shot in response. Hitler observed at the time that he felt like a sleepwalker as his troops proceeded to goose-step across a slumbering Europe. British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain responded to the Rhineland occupation by meekly handing over a slice of Czechoslovakia to the Nazis in exchange for peace. By 1941, Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan had crushed large portions of Europe and Asia, thus forcing millions to cower under their brutal totalitarian jackboot. Germany and Japan did not possess nuclear weapons. Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has also judged the western democracies correctly. Like his Nazi predecessor, Ahmadinejad is gripped by the same lust for world conquest. The revolutionary Islamists are on a similar Nazi like march to "cleanse" the planet by the force of arms. This is why the Islamic revolutionaries think it's "heroic" to blow up an Israeli mother in front of her husband and children. Just like in the 1930's, the western democracies find the gathering threat too unpleasant to face and the Iranians know it. Like Chamberlain, our leaders seek accommodation in exchange for peace. The Islamic revolutionaries brag that they love death while we love life and they are right. We have a lot to live for. We are used to living in free countries where we work hard to make a better life for ourselves and our families. We are accustomed to the trappings of freedom and liberty. We're not interested in subduing our neighbors in order to achieve utopia but, rather, we seek peaceful coexistence. This is our Achilles heal. We don't want war, they do. Our disadvantage is that we face an enemy that has no scruples. Our advantage, the one thing that could save our civilization from a potentially cataclysmic war, is our technological and military superiority. We still have enough of a military edge that we could achieve a swift and decisive victory. The salient question is whether or not we have leaders who possess the moral and practical fortitude to recognize the situation for what it is and respond with decisive action. Our military advantage is eroding and time is running out. Iran is developing nuclear weapons at breakneck speed. Estimates vary in terms of when Iran will be able to deliver a nuclear bomb. Ahmadijanad now boasts that Iran is testing a centrifuge that could be used to create fuel for atomic weapons. Ahmadinejad claims that Iran is testing a P-2 centrifuge for enriching uranium. Such a device would be an advance over the P-1 centrifuges that Iran now uses to conduct small-scale enrichment. Ahmadinejad speaks of a "historic war between the oppressor and the world of Islam." By oppressor, he is referring to the United States. It is fair to say that most Americans, when given the option, would prefer to live under American "oppression" as opposed to the tender ministrations of the "world of Islam." Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for this recent mass murder of Jews in Israel and Islamic Jihad is closely tied to Iran. Their exiled leader, Ramadan Shallah, said in response to this killing that his group was making "nonstop efforts" to infiltrate suicide bombers into Israel. Iranian leaders have made statements that constitute blackmail against the United States with the threat that terrorism against Americans on American soil will ensue if we act. The Department of Homeland Security has reported that terror cells have infiltrated into the United States, a situation that was exacerbated in the 1990's after a Democratic Congress passed a law that allowed members of terrorist groups to enter the country legally. Dan Gillerman, Israel's U.N. ambassador, accurately referred to the mass murder of Jews in Israel, and statements made by Palestinian, Iranian and Syrian leaders in support of that murder, as "clear declarations of war." Gillerman cautioned that a new "axis of terror" - Iran, Syria and the Hamas-run Palestinian government - was sowing the seeds of the first world war of the 21st century." The threat is knocking at the door. The old alliance that defeated Hitler, the Soviet communists, and Saddam Hussein needs to step into the breach once again and defend freedom against the forces of aggression. Freedom doesn't grow on trees but must be defended from time to time. Peace-loving nations and peoples must act swiftly in order to save lives and preserve the peace.
