If men were angels

The problem of a large and powerful government that would trample we the people under foot was an issue about which our founders were concerned.  The basic human nature of people was clearly laid out in Federalist Paper No. 51 by James Madison.

"If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary."

At Ohio State University's May 5, 2013 graduation, then President Obama chided his political opponents and admonished the graduating class that:

"Unfortunately, you've grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that's at the root of all our problems...They'll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices."

How discordant are Mr. Obama’s graduation proclamations as we have watched the unfolding of history in real-time.  With former President Obama’s own actions while president in mind, his supporters clearly at work behind the scenes currently in the federal government and reflected by his fellow travelers throughout the country, his thoughts and statements are blatantly contradictory to reality.

We have experienced government mandated closure and in some cases destruction of many private businesses but not others, unemployment for those deemed non-critical by the government, masking, injections of emergency-approved gene manipulation concoctions or so-called vaccines, even dictates to inject children who have little to no likely chance of being harmed by the Corona virus.  Political officials’ poor decisions that harmed so many with severe side-effects from the gene manipulation injection, while systemically ignoring or deeming illegal viable prophylactic remedies.  Worse yet, governors and their health agency cohorts who sent elderly patients with the virus back to their care facilities to spread certain death to the vulnerable facility cohabitants, all with no legal repercussions.  Corruption, deceit, incompetence, and abuse of their positions is not a bug for big government and its flawed politician advocates, it is a historically demonstrated feature.

We have experienced the capricious dictates from those in power that they themselves have been caught flaunting.  Purposefully allowing entry, and dispersing millions of untested and unvaccinated illegal entrants throughout the country.  A beauty salon is not open unless a politician needs her hair done.  Politician dictates to wear your mask to go the bathroom in a restaurant, but it is okay to take if off to eat.  Political dictates that allow shopping in the food aisles at the big box store, but not in another part of the store to buy gardening supplies, as example.  Clearly political stunts that allow large gathering for anti-police protests, but not for a baseball game or concert, or even within six feet of another person, ad infinitum.

An integral mechanism to promote the current big government-think resides in the mainstream media.  It is beyond reason at this point that any person would assert the mainstream media is not the communication arm of the political party of big government.  Marching in lock-step and even leading the liberal agenda, the mainstream media daily reports the “news,” and these reports are formed in a manner to support the liberal position.  As an add-on to the bias, the mainstream media doesn’t report on those news items that would factually not support the big government party’s position.

The left has consistently complained about the existence of Fox News and conservative talk radio in general, whose existence they attribute to causing division among Americans and making the government’s job of dispensing “truth” difficult.  This disparity of media outlet messages continues unabated.  The large number of alphabet soup liberal media outlets in comparison to the few conservative outlets.

In a speech at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in October 2016, the poster child of a large, controlling government, President Obama, floated the notion of a media test:

“There has to be, I think, some sort of way in which we can sort through information that passes some basic truthiness tests and those that we have to discard because they just don’t have any basis in anything that’s actually happening in the world.”

President Obama’s desire appeared to be a government-established group to apply the “truthiness” to the media’s reporting.  Obviously, nothing could go wrong with that, as surely the former Soviet Union communist leader Nikita Khrushchev would agree:

“The press is our chief ideological weapon”

Or as so succinctly stated by the philosophical mind of Noam Chomsky:

“He who controls the media controls the minds of the public”

It is possible that the liberals and their media’s propagated big government utopia could be real if only men were angels, but they are not. ESR
